Jeff was born in Strongsville, Ohio but was raised in Plano, Texas, where his father introduced him to the game of golf at six years old - Jeff was instantly hooked! His father taught him the rules and proper etiquette of golf, and provided Jeff with the lessons that he still lives by today. His father then turned Jeff over to professionals, including Hank Haney and Randy Smith, and he worked with Randy Smith for the next 15 years. Jeff counts himself very fortunate to have had these strong influences in his life. Says Jeff, "...they made sure I developed a strong sense of integrity, reliability, responsibility, honesty, and a solid work ethic. These core values have propelled me to every bit of success I have had." Jeff entered Plano West Senior High School in 1998, graduating in 2002 with a 3.75 GPA and a 5A Texas High School State Championship. Again, he was fortunate to have another positive influence in his life, in the form of Coach Rick Hardison. As Jeff notes, " He helped me grow from a boy to a man. He instilled leadership qualities in me, helping me assume captain responsibilities that I was to fulfill all four years in high school." As a result, jeff earned All-America honors three years in a row and was considered one of the top junior golfers in the country by his senior year. Recruited nationally, Jeff chose the University of Texas. As many are aware, it takes a ton of hard work and discipline to be a successful student-athlete at Texas. He helped the Longhorn golf team to four great years, winning two Big 12 Conference Championships, earning All-Conference honors three times, both as a player and as a student. Again, Jeff shares the honors for that success with his coaches and mentors, saying, "...there is no way I could have compiled those accolades without a number of people that were there to help me on a daily basis. My coaches John Fields, Steve Keasler, Greg Priest, Trey Zepeda, and Allen Hardin enforced the importance of time-management and discipline. They are all highly respected, and much of the coaching principles that I learned from them I will bring to The First Tee of Greater Austin." After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Business, Jeff pursued his dream of playing professional golf on the Nationwide Tour. After 2 years, he felt that teaching the game of golf was his true passion, as he had been doing so throughout his school career. He started offering lessons and clinics at tournament sites to the local communities in the Dallas metro area and soon became a popular instructor. Then in January of 2011, an opportunity arose to join forces with a close friend, Jay Reynolds, and create an on-course golf lesson business they call “ScoringSolutionsGolf”, primarily at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas. The business has been thriving. Along with course management and swing techniques, Jeff preaches a proper pace of play and golf etiquette, both at Wolfdancer and at The First Tee of Greater Austin. Jeff will be splitting his time between the two facilities and says, "I am obviously extremely excited to be joining the First Tee of Greater Austin. I know Dave Baron leaves behind big shoes to fill, but I can promise you that I will work as hard as possible to make this place the best it can be. I will represent the First Tee of Greater Austin in a professional manner each and every day. I will do my very best to see our program installed into every after-school program in Austin. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting down to business as soon as possible."
